OutFox Alpha V 043 – Crashfix Edition
Hey folks! We’ve just dropped the latest OutFox 0.5.0 Pre-Release Candidate 043 build - lovingly known as the "Crashfix Edition". This update is all about making your time with OutFox smoother, more stable, and more fun, while offering more support for the devices you use and challenge us with supporting.
What’s New
Stability first: Hundreds of crashes and long-standing bugs have been fixed across all modes (Dance, Pump, Be-mu, Po-mu, Taiko, Bongo, Gddm, Rb and Gh). You’ll feel the difference.
Steam Deck ready: Added a brand-new driver and default mapping, so you can take OutFox on the go. This will fix the docking and undocking issue for those players with pads and controllers, and should stop the issues with L-Tek pads missing their up button when docked. You will need to remap, so apologies if your mappings are wiped with this update!
Online improvements: New network service: Outfox.online! This added new smoother logins, automatic score saving, online leaderboards, and profile linking, even on older SM5 themes!
Faster loading: Got a giant song library? The new “CacheOnly” boot mode can load 30,000+ songs in seconds. There is a new threaded loader for those on NVME/SSD drives, to also ensure excellent loading performance.
Better media playback: New hardware-accelerated FFMPEG drivers improve video and audio performance while cutting CPU use. This is especially important on devices that are weaker and can benefit from the extra boost.
Editor love: Incremental save/backups, new time signature support, and a detail-level control for beat bars. All reported crashes have been resolved, so this should be smoother to use now!
Lyrics & subs: Added SRT/ASS/SSA/VTT support, plus bold/italic styling for in-game lyrics.
Pump it Up fixes: Dozens of quirks and oddities have been resolved, making PIU almost fully viable.
New noteskins & polish: From TaiFox (Taiko) to classic gddm, plus glowing editor text and cleaner visuals.
Platform support expanded: Raspberry Pi ARM builds, Massive Wayland improvements for Linux, MacOS fixes, Konami PS3DDR Pad driver and more.
Rich Presence on Steam: Let your friends see what you’re grooving to only on the steam build, not on builds released here.
Why it matters
- Fewer freezes and smoother gameplay.
- Quicker startup and transitions.
- Accurate scoring and better online play.
- Expanded support for more hardware and systems.
This is still a test build, so please report any oddities/crashes you run into. Every single fix here came from your feedback, and it makes OutFox better for everyone.
Thanks for sticking with us, and keep the chart scores and setup posts coming!
This will be the final build of Alpha V, (hotfixes aside!). We are preparing for a big rework of UI/UX moving forward, so this will make the game feel a lot more modern for those modes which are still in proof of concept/working skeletons.
Thank you for all the reports, and the playing time guys, it is really appreciated, it's allowed us to push on with newer parts of the project that would have been delayed a bit longer if we didn't have you kind folks playing this work-in-progress game.
The ChangeLog is a bit vast for this month, I hope you take a moment to sift through it! I will put it up on the wiki so grab a cuppa and a biccy and give it a peruse.
